Bhavik Desai appointed MD for PFR & Cyber at Markel Insurance

Desai succeeds David Sawyer, who will stay through his planned retirement at the end of 2026, as the London Market division targets underwriting strategy and portfolio performance in professional, financial and cyber risks.

Markel Insurance, the insurance operating unit within Markel Group Inc., has appointed Bhavik Desai as Managing Director for PFR & Cyber in its London Market business.

Desai takes over from David Sawyer, who will remain with the business until his planned retirement at the end of 2026. In the new role, Desai is tasked with overseeing underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, and broker and client engagement across PFR & Cyber.

Markel said the role will focus on enhancing portfolio performance, developing underwriting talent, and strengthening its position across professional, financial, and cyber-related risks. Desai will also work with internal teams including underwriting, claims, actuarial, distribution, and operations to support insight-led decision-making and modern underwriting practices.

Desai has been with Markel since 2013 and has held senior underwriting roles including Head of Professional Indemnity and Director of Professional Indemnity, Media & Entertainment. Markel said his mandate includes building on disciplined underwriting, technical excellence, and sustainable growth across complex specialty lines.
