China accuses US of disregarding Xi-Trump consensus in firm blacklist

China says the US expanded the national security concept and “suppressed” Chinese enterprises, after the Pentagon blacklisted more than 60 firms and earlier launched rare-earth export controls against US companies.

China accused the United States of misusing national power after the Pentagon blacklisted more than 60 Chinese companies, saying Washington disregarded a consensus reached between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing in May, according to the South China Morning Post.

China pointed to the early June designations of dozens of firms, including Alibaba, Baidu, and BYD, as “Chinese military companies operating in the United States,” and said this conduct undermines Chinese firms rights and interests.

The dispute also extends beyond company blacklists, with China announcing export controls against leading US rare earth firms days after the Pentagon actions, the report said.

The South China Morning Post added that affected Chinese tech companies have taken legal steps to challenge the Pentagon designation, and that sources familiar with the matter said the latest tit-for-tat measures are unlikely to derail Xi’s likely US visit in September.
