U.S. carries out airstrikes after Iran attacks ship in Hormuz

The Pentagon said Iran used a route near Oman's coast that is protected by U.S. military forces, and Tehran has demanded ships switch to a northern route through Iranian waters.

The United States carried out airstrikes against Iran after Iran attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, the Pentagon said, according to CNBC Markets.

CNBC World reported that the attack occurred after Tehran targeted ships using a route along Oman's coast that is protected by U.S. military forces.

The reports also said Iran has demanded that vessels use a northern route through its waters, a shift that could affect shipping patterns through the key passage.
