Iran says mediation with the US remains ongoing via Qatar, Oman, Pakistan

WTI crude was up 3% to $73.37, while EUR/USD rose 0.2% to 1.1440 and GBP/USD held around 1.3405.

Iran’s foreign ministry said mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are continuing in recent days, with Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan involved. The spokesperson also said Tehran remains in contact with all three countries and that discussions were still ongoing, though talks do not appear imminent, according to Forexlive.

The update contributed to a shift in market pricing for risk and currencies, with oil moving off earlier highs. Forexlive reported WTI crude was up 3% to $73.37.

In foreign exchange markets, Forexlive said the dollar was weaker in early European trade, as EUR/USD gained 0.2% to 1.1440, up from around 1.1400 earlier. GBP/USD was described as flat at 1.3405 after trading as low as 1.3370.

Forexlive also said USD/JPY was little changed around 162.05, following earlier headlines involving Japan’s GPIF.
