Typhoon Bavi disrupts schools, roads and tourism in northeast China
Shenyang suspended classes for junior high, primary schools and kindergartens, and kept 94 tourist sites closed as flooding affected roads and bus and subway service.
Typhoon Bavi moved through northeast China, triggering emergency measures as heavy rain caused flooding, disrupted transport, and shut down portions of the education and tourism sectors, according to SCMP Economy.
In Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province, authorities suspended all classes for junior high, primary schools and kindergartens for the day, along with construction work and outdoor activities, and reported that 94 tourist attraction sites remained closed. The government notice also encouraged some employees to work from home and reduce travel for safety.
Roads in Shenyang flooded, leading to temporary closures of some bus routes and subway stations, while more than 3,500 staff across 12 government departments were on duty for ongoing rescue and flood relief, the report said.
In Chengde, Hebei province, flooding washed away several cars and destroyed roads in about nine villages, leaving villagers trapped as heavy rain continued late into Sunday night, SCMP Economy added.
