24 students hit perfect scores in Hong Kong DSE exams
Hong Kong’s exam authority said 36.8% of day school candidates met the minimum admission requirement, while 19 students earned Level 5** across six subjects.
A record 24 students from 15 schools scored perfect results in Hong Kong’s Diploma of Secondary Education, according to the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority data released on Tuesday, an increase from 17 students last year.
The authority said 36.8% of day school candidates met the minimum admission requirement. For grading, most DSE subjects use a seven-level scale from Level 1 to Level 5, with Level 5 subdivided into 5*, 5** and related designations.
This year, 14 boys and 10 girls attained Level 5** in six subjects, alongside an “attained” result in citizenship and social development. Among them, 11 students were designated “super top scorers,” with Level 5** also achieved in the extended mathematics module.
The authority’s release noted that Level 5** is awarded to the top 10% of candidates who achieve Level 5 or above, with Level 5* covering the next 30%. Level 5 is awarded to the remainder, based on the same distribution framework.
