China chip exports nearly double in first half as AI demand lifts

In the first six months, China shipped 179.4 billion integrated circuits worth US$177.3 billion, and exports of automatic data processing machines and parts rose 41.3% to US$138.1 billion.

China’s integrated circuit exports nearly doubled in the first half of the year, underscoring how the global AI boom is boosting demand for computing hardware, according to customs data highlighted by SCMP Economy.

The General Administration of Customs said China exported 179.44 billion ICs valued at US$177.28 billion in the first six months, up more than 96% year on year. SCMP Economy also linked the surge to China’s double digit export growth in the period, alongside stronger overseas demand for industrial robots and other high tech products.

SCMP Economy reported that Chinese authorities have been pushing the adoption of domestically designed chips to support semiconductor self reliance. The report noted that China approved the sale of Nvidia’s H200 graphics processing units to a small number of Chinese tech companies.

The customs data also showed exports of automatic data processing machines and parts, including computers, servers, memory and other components, jumped 41.3% to US$138.08 billion in the first half of the year, framing AI-related equipment as a key driver of trade growth.
