Hong Kong Book Fair 2026 opens with publishers seeking last year’s sales level

Vendors are targeting sales roughly in line with 2025, after last year’s fair lost a day to a typhoon.

Hong Kong booksellers are approaching the 2026 Hong Kong Book Fair with a cautious outlook, aiming to match last year’s sales as the publishing and retail sectors remain under pressure, according to SCMP Economy.

The seven-day event opens Wednesday at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, running alongside the Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks. Organizers say the three shows will bring together more than 770 exhibitors from about 30 countries and regions.

Danny Leung, deputy general manager of Wan Li Book Company, said the publisher would be satisfied with sales staying consistent with last year’s, noting that last year’s typhoon effectively cost the fair one day.

He added that improved weather this year could provide a modest lift, with expectations that business could be on par with last year or perhaps slightly higher if conditions are favorable.
