Louis Vuitton sues China trademark regulator, more cases pending

The dispute will be heard in a Beijing intellectual property court, with additional trademark infringement hearings scheduled between mid-July and late August.

Louis Vuitton Malletier is set to face China’s trademark regulator, the China National Intellectual Property Administration, in a Chinese intellectual property court on Thursday, according to SCMP Economy.

The French luxury brand filed an administrative lawsuit against CNIPA, with Huang Minyao named as a third party, as reflected in a notice published by the Beijing Intellectual Property Court in May. It was not immediately clear from the notice what specific trademark dispute is at issue.

SCMP Economy also noted the company is already heavily involved in litigation in China this year. By the end of the reporting period, 58 judgments and court summonses involving Louis Vuitton, most tied to trademark disputes, were published on the country’s official court announcement platform.

In addition, another 11 trademark infringement cases involving Louis Vuitton are scheduled for hearings between mid-July and the end of August, based on court notices compiled by Qichacha. The outlet also said Louis Vuitton has sued CNIPA before, with a similar case heard by the Beijing court in March.
