APM Terminals expands bulk grain storage capacity in Peru

The Callao port now stores 85,000 tonnes versus 25,000 tonnes before the July 2025 completion, with vessel unloading throughput doubling after new receiving lines were added.

APM Terminals Callao has completed a 60,000-tonne expansion at its port facility in Callao, Peru, boosting its bulk grain receiving capacity and positioning the site as a leading grain-handling port in the country, according to World Grain.

Before the project, the facility could store 25,000 tonnes in concrete storage, but after completion in July 2025 it can store 85,000 tonnes in steel and concrete bins. The expansion also adds truck load-out capabilities.

World Grain reports that efficiency improved with vessel unloading throughput doubling, supported by two new 900-tph receiving lines. The facility can either double unload capacity or unload two different grain products at the same time, and APM said vessel unloading time was reduced by half.

The 10-month project included civil works and equipment supply from CTB, Inc., and the new silos are designed for zone 4 seismic conditions, with wind resistance specified at 102.5 mph. APM also said enclosed conveyor systems and a dust-tight filling approach are intended to reduce particulate exposure for workers and nearby users.
