CUHK sets up first cross-border clinical trial centre in Nansha
The centre, created with mainland partners, will begin with AI scoliosis screening studies and stem cell trials for knee osteoarthritis.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong has launched its first clinical trial centre outside Hong Kong, partnering with mainland authorities to broaden research collaboration as part of efforts to develop the Greater Bay Area as a medical innovation hub, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports the Greater Bay Area Clinical Trial Centre is based at the Nansha branch of Guangzhou First People’s Hospital, where representatives from CUHK, Nansha District and the hospital signed a collaboration agreement on Wednesday.
The centre aims to improve regional clinical research capabilities and healthcare quality, while speeding development and adoption of innovative pharmaceuticals and medical technologies to benefit patients in the bay area, the outlet said.
The first batch of studies will focus on AI-powered scoliosis screening and stem cell therapy for knee osteoarthritis, SCMP Economy reports, citing remarks from CUHK pro-vice-chancellor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung at the launch ceremony.
