OpenAI says it has no evidence Apple’s trade-secret suit has merit

The dispute follows Apple’s filing of a lawsuit alleging OpenAI used proprietary Apple components and helped employees evade Apple security procedures.

OpenAI said it is “not aware of any evidence” that a lawsuit filed by Apple Inc. alleging trade-secret theft has merit, according to a statement shared on Tuesday by the company.

OpenAI said it takes the allegations seriously, but it is focused on building new technology and promoting fair competition, after its earlier comments on Friday that it was not interested in trade secrets from other companies.

The lawsuit, filed four days earlier, alleges OpenAI took proprietary technology to help develop a new family of AI-powered devices, including claims that OpenAI’s chief hardware officer persuaded employees to bring components related to Apple products to job interviews and that OpenAI designed a process to help Apple employees evade security procedures.

Apple also alleged that a former iPhone engineer who left for OpenAI earlier this year hacked into its systems to obtain engineering presentations and other information, while Apple described OpenAI’s hardware team as having a “shaky foundation.”
