Applied Optoelectronics starts near 400K SF Pearland manufacturing build

The projects at 14621 Kirby Drive and 11555 N. Spectrum Blvd. are targeted for completion and transceiver production to begin in 2027, with city and local support described as part of AOI's production ramp.

Applied Optoelectronics Inc. has begun construction on two adjacent projects in Pearland, a Texas expansion that will add nearly 400,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity, according to Bisnow citing the Houston Business Journal.

The builds will include manufacturing for optical transceivers used to connect network devices over fiber optics. Completion and the start of transceiver production are slated for 2027.

AOI’s facilities in Pearland are tied to plans to increase production for the internet and artificial intelligence markets, including components, modules and related equipment used in data centers and residences.

Bisnow reports that the City of Sugar Land is providing a $2 million incentive for the company’s broader local expansion, which is expected to involve a $150 million capital investment and create 500 jobs over the next five years, and that Pearland supported AOI to meet manufacturing needs for the new projects.
