Beijing condemns US plan to fold China chip curbs into NDAA
China warned the measures could arbitrarily disrupt global industrial and supply chains, after US lawmakers reportedly moved three export control bills into the National Defence Authorisation Act.
Beijing condemned new US efforts to restrict China’s access to leading semiconductor chips and chipmaking equipment, warning the steps could cause “arbitrary disruption and damage” to global supply chains, according to SCMP Economy.
The assessment followed reports that three China-targeted export control bills, the AI Overwatch Act, the Match Act and the Chip Security Act, are set to be folded into the US Senate’s National Defence Authorisation Act, the annual defence policy bill.
Liu Chang, a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, said Beijing rejects inserting negative content about China into the draft legislation, while also arguing that global industrial and supply chains are shaped by market forces and business choices.
SCMP Economy reported that Liu added that arbitrary disruption would serve no one’s interests and that Beijing would not support it.
