Alibaba previews Qwen3.8-Max-Preview with 2.4T parameters

The preview model is available through Alibaba’s Token Plan subscription service and its Qoder and QoderWork agentic platforms.

Alibaba Group Holding has previewed its next-generation AI model, Qwen3.8-Max-Preview, positioning it as nearly top-tier versus Anthropic’s most capable widely released model to date. In a post on X, Alibaba said the model is “second only” to Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.

Alibaba said Qwen3.8-Max-Preview has 2.4 trillion parameters, describing it as one of the most powerful models available today and comparable to leading frontier AI systems. Parameters, the company noted, are a measure of AI system complexity, with higher counts generally indicating stronger performance.

The company also said the preview model is available through its Token Plan subscription service, as well as through its Qoder and QoderWork agentic platforms. The announcement frames the update as an expansion of Alibaba’s AI product lineup for customers who want access to its newest model tier.
