Hong Kong-based IOMed expands mediation footprint across 46 signatories
The China-led International Organisation for Mediation says it has resolved at least one additional dispute and is planning further outreach trips to Austria, France, and the United States.
An intergovernmental mediation body headquartered in Hong Kong says it has resolved at least one more dispute since settling a case involving parties from Singapore and mainland China, as its reach grows among countries and other stakeholders, according to the SCMP Economy. The organization, the International Organisation for Mediation, said its influence now covers 46 signatory states and 16 contracting states.
In remarks carried by SCMP Economy, Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, secretary general of IOMed, said her team has had to persistently explain the organization’s work to governments, corporations, and professional groups amid geopolitical concerns. She added that the groups tend to understand after the organization provides its explanation, based on her experience.
SCMP Economy reports that IOMed was officially inaugurated in Hong Kong last October after participating countries signed the convention for the institution’s establishment in May 2026. Cheng said IOMed has already visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Morocco, and Serbia to explain its role.
Cheng also said the organization plans to travel next to Austria, France, and the United States to continue those outreach efforts, the outlet reported.
