Solana staking ETF offers yield features barred by Ethereum spot ETF

BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF tracks ETH price only and cannot stake, while the Solana fund stakes nearly all holdings and pays over 7% annually.

Yahoo Finance highlights a structural trade-off for crypto ETF investors, contrasting BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF with the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF. ETHA is designed as an institutional wrapper for spot ETH exposure, but it cannot currently stake the ether it holds, meaning holders do not receive the network's native staking yield.

The report says Nasdaq filed a Form 19b-4 in July 2025 to enable staking within ETHA, and the SEC postponed its decisions in October 2025. In the meantime, the article notes that the spot-and-staking approach is already available in other products, with the implication that ETHA holders give up yield even if they get regulated, exchange-style access.

Yahoo Finance adds that staking directly on Ethereum is described as roughly 3% to 4% annually, while the Solana staking ETF stakes nearly 100% of its SOL holdings and delivers over 7% annually. It also cites ETHA's year-to-date decline of 40.4% through July 13, 2026, to emphasize that the absence of a yield component can make drawdowns harder to cushion for Ethereum ETF holders.

On fund demand and tax considerations, the article says ETHA has drawn $11.316 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch and describes a Dartmouth endowment disclosure of a $14 million BSOL position, with the note that holding through an IRA can shield staking distributions from current-year taxes, according to Yahoo Finance.
