H Mart accelerates expansion into fast-growing Sun Belt markets
The Korean grocery chain has $2 billion in annual sales and more than 100 locations across the U.S. and Canada, and is targeting Florida, Texas, California, and Nevada for growth.
H Mart is pushing ahead with a rapid expansion into some of the fastest-growing U.S. communities, including Florida, Texas, California, and Nevada, Commercial Observer reports. The specialty grocer, which focuses on Asian goods, has drawn attention beyond its core audience as social media users share product “haul” videos and reviews. Commercial Observer notes that H Mart became a destination for Asian American families seeking ingredients from their homelands, and that broader U.S. interest in Korean dramas, K-Pop, Japanese culture, and travel to East Asia has helped expand its customer base. Commercial Observer also highlights the company’s scale, saying H Mart has about $2 billion in annual sales and more than 100 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The outlet frames the expansion as part of how the chain has stayed nimble in a competitive grocery industry.
