Bitcoin tops $66,000 to attempt breakout after one-month high
The move lifted BTC to $66,306 on Bitstamp, and CoinGlass data put 24-hour cross-crypto liquidations at about $200 million.
Bitcoin pushed above $66,000 and reached one-month highs, with BTC/USD trading at $66,306 on Bitstamp, according to TradingView data. The level was last seen on June 17, as prior rejections around the $65,000 area did not derail momentum.
CoinGlass data cited by Cointelegraph showed 24-hour cross-crypto liquidations of around $200 million as price broke through prior range levels. Traders also pointed to short-position liquidations and rising upside calls, with references to targets such as $67,000.
Cointelegraph also highlighted derivatives positioning, with QCP Capital noting some demand for higher Bitcoin bets into the end of July. The firm tied the outlook to upcoming interest-rate expectations ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting, where the article said market participants expect rates to stay unchanged before September.
The brief also cited CME Group’s FedWatch Tool, showing an 83.4% probability the Fed keeps the current 3.50% to 3.75% target range at the July 29 meeting. For the Sept. 16 FOMC meeting, FedWatch indicated a 53.8% probability of a hike to the 3.75% to 4.00% range.
