Chicago sees AI job postings surge, lifting office-market prospects
Chicago AI-related job postings rose 80.6% from 2024 to 2025, and the city already surpassed last year’s full-year total six months into 2026.
Chicago’s office market could get a boost from accelerating hiring tied to artificial intelligence, with AI-related job postings in the city increasing year over year, according to data provided to Bisnow by Avison Young Market Intelligence.
Chicago trailed only New York City and San Francisco for a year over year increase in AI-related job postings, at just fewer than 10,000 roles. AI companies also continued expanding their footprints, with total AI office footprint reaching 9.2 million square feet in the United States as of the second quarter, and Chicago accounting for 308,000 square feet.
Many of the roles posted now emphasize skills tied to large language models, knowledge of major AI platforms, and deploying agents to improve workflows, Avison Young senior analyst Sean Boyd said. Bisnow also noted that these jobs are appearing across industries beyond tech, including medical, finance, and education.
Supporting demand signals include faster tenant interest in office spaces, with AI-focused building tours in the U.S. jumping 85% through May, per VTS. Bisnow further reported that Chicago included organizations such as Turing, the University of Chicago, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Accenture among the largest year over year gainers, and that the city has logged six straight quarters of growth in office-using employment, with Q2 up about 15% to 20% quarter over quarter.
