Experiential retail grows as immersive venues boost in-person draw
A Metatech Insights forecast puts the global experiential retail market at $132 billion in 2025, projecting more than quadruple by 2035 at about 15.2% CAGR.
Commercial Observer examines how experiential retail is shifting the physical retail playbook, using destinations like Area 15 in Las Vegas to combine shops and food and beverage with attractions that extend the concept beyond traditional storefronts.
The piece highlights examples inside Area 15, including Interstellar Arc, marketed as the world’s largest VR experience, and Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, a themed “psychedelic supermarket” concept. It also describes a John Wick Experience that places visitors in a film-inspired escape scenario, with a bar available after the challenge.
According to Metatech Insights, the global experiential retail market was $132 billion in 2025 and is expected to more than quadruple by 2035, with projected compound annual growth of about 15.2% during the decade. The article links the shift to changing preferences among younger consumers.
Commercial Observer also cites architecture firm Gensler retail and consumer experience studio director Tyler Winograd, who says retail historically focused on transactions and not on increasing dwell time or brand loyalty. With product sales often handled online, he argues physical retailers need more layered experiences to justify visits, since shoppers can complete transactions digitally.
