NICB appoints Marta Magnuszewska as CIO
The National Insurance Crime Bureau said the hire takes effect July 20 and will include oversight of data governance and AI direction as insurers face rising fraud, including contractor schemes.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau has appointed Marta Magnuszewska as senior vice president and chief information and technology officer, effective July 20, tasking her with leading NICB's technology strategy and enterprise architecture. In the role, she will oversee the information technology team across infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development and technical support, direct NICB's data science team, and guide data governance, product development and the organization's AI direction, according to Insurance Business. Magnuszewska brings more than two decades of experience in the insurance industry, most recently as vice president of claims transformation, data analytics and AI at Markel Insurance Corporation. Before that, she held roles at The Hartford, John Bean Technologies, and Allstate Insurance, including positions focused on data science, underwriting transformation and analytics in claims, the outlet reported. NICB CEO David J. Glawe said the appointment reflects a leadership background in modernizing claims, underwriting and data ecosystems, including data pipelines, predictive models and analytics platforms aimed at improving fraud detection and claims outcomes. The appointment comes as NICB and its member insurers continue to tackle insurance fraud and a more active regulatory environment for AI tools used to fight it, with NICB citing an estimated $308.6 billion in annual losses from insurance fraud in the United States. NICB also said reported contractor fraud cases rose 38% from 2023 to 2025 amid increasingly frequent and costly severe weather events.
