Vertical Aerospace gets more UK funding for electric flying taxi prototype
The company said UK state support totals £48m after a new £10m grant as it seeks certification for eVTOL flights.
Vertical Aerospace said the UK government has expressed interest in buying a military variant of its electric flying taxi, as the company works to secure approvals to start carrying paying passengers.
The startup also welcomed another £10m government grant, lifting its total UK state funding to £48m. The update came after Vertical Aerospace made its first public demonstration of its Valo eVTOL aircraft transitioning from conventional wing based flight to vertical descent.
Vertical Aerospace demonstrated the prototype model on Monday at the Farnborough international airshow near London, positioning the aircraft as part of a broader push to land quietly in built up areas with no direct emissions.
The company said it is going through the certification process for a totally new aircraft with the UK Civil Aviation Authority, after previously facing a cash crisis in 2024 that led to founder Stephen Fitzpatrick’s exit. Vertical Aerospace also noted it is racing against Joby Aviation, while other eVTOL rivals including Eve and Archer Aviation are further behind.
