Alamo Drafthouse to lease and reopen Cinerama Dome and ArcLight Hollywood
Construction is set to begin in August, with both theaters slated to reopen in 2028 at 6360 Sunset Blvd.
Alamo Drafthouse is set to reopen the shuttered Cinerama Dome and ArcLight Hollywood after signing a lease with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which owns the theaters, Bisnow reports. Alamo will operate both venues under the deal, with the Cinerama Dome keeping its name and the ArcLight converting into a 14-screen Alamo Drafthouse Hollywood.
According to Alamo Drafthouse, construction is scheduled to begin in August, and the properties are expected to reopen in 2028. The theaters are located side by side at 6360 Sunset Blvd.
Alamo said it will preserve and update the city landmark Cinerama Dome, with the venue expected to resume showing movies on 70-millimeter film. The chain also plans to position the dome as a destination for film premieres, special events, and repertory programming created specifically for the site.
For the revamped ArcLight, Bisnow reports it will operate like other Alamo Drafthouses, featuring first-run and revival films and full-service food and beverage. The article also notes Alamo is working on the long-term lease with teams from JLL, CBRE, and Muhlstein Commercial.
