Hong Kong warns mainland dental chains after alleged illegal clinic activity

Hong Kong Dental Association polling found local dentists must follow up on an average of four cross-border treatment cases per month, amid concerns over promotional booths operating in the city.

Hong Kong authorities have warned that mainland Chinese dental chains suspected of operating illegally in the city could face enforcement action, as local industry leaders called for tighter supervision, according to SCMP Economy.

SCMP Economy reports that the Health Bureau and the Department of Health said they contacted the Hong Kong Dental Association after receiving reports of mainland clinics running promotional booths in Hong Kong.

The association said consultation booths were set up in busy districts in recent months, offering free teeth cleaning and cross-border shuttle-bus services to attract customers, SCMP Economy added.

After representatives posed as customers and visited the booths this month, the association said employees dressed in white coats used endoscopes to recommend treatments, raising concerns that the activity may violate local ordinances.
