Iran warns it could retaliate by cutting electricity supplies
The IRGC also claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz and warned commercial vessels against using alternative shipping routes.
Forexlive reports that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard broadened its threats beyond military targets, warning that if its bridges or power plants are attacked, it would retaliate by cutting electricity supplies to U.S. regional allies.
The outlet says the IRGC’s warnings extend the potential conflict to critical civilian infrastructure, while its navy claimed “absolute control” over the entrance and exit to the Strait of Hormuz and cautioned commercial vessels that alternative routes would be “unsafe and dangerous.”
Forexlive also notes maritime tensions, citing Arab media reports of explosions in Kuwait that have not been immediately confirmed or linked to the wider dispute.
With U.S. gasoline prices reportedly back above $4.00 a gallon and the report referencing preparations for the November elections and an expected Netanyahu trip to Washington, Forexlive adds that the rhetoric is making it harder to identify an off-ramp from escalation.
