Bitcoin falls below $65,000 amid Iran tensions and rising yields
The drop came as US risk assets slid, Brent crude pushed above $100 a barrel, and CME’s FedWatch showed July rate hike odds near 40%.
Bitcoin slipped below $65,000 on Thursday, reaching $64,799 on Bitstamp, according to TradingView data cited by Cointelegraph.
Cointelegraph tied the move to renewed US-Iran conflict risk, including a comment from US President Donald Trump saying he would blame Iran for recent Houthi strikes on Saudi commercial vessels. Cointelegraph also reported that the S&P 500 fell 1.2% and the Nasdaq dropped 2.2% by the New York close.
Cointelegraph said oil prices rallied, with Brent crude topping $100 a barrel for the first time since early June, while commentary pointed to a jump in inflation expectations and interest rates. The outlet also cited CME Group’s FedWatch tool, showing the odds of a 0.25% July hike rising to nearly 40% from about 12% a week earlier, a setup that is typically viewed as a headwind for crypto.
Cointelegraph added that an increasing split among Bitcoin traders centered on how price might behave in the near term, and noted references to US 10-year bond yields hitting 18-month highs as a sign of renewed economic strain.
