IEX June-quarter profit rises as electricity volumes climb
The Indian Energy Exchange said power demand hit a record 270.8 GW in May 2026, lifting consumption to 485.4 billion units in the quarter.
Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported June-quarter results after market hours, showing profit growth alongside higher electricity trading activity. The company said standalone profit after tax rose 12.1% year over year to ₹126.7 crore, while consolidated profit after tax increased 11.7% to ₹134.8 crore.
IEX also pointed to stronger market participation during a hotter-than-normal summer in India. Electricity trading volume rose 15.9% year over year to 37.5 billion units, and consolidated revenue increased 10.1% year over year to ₹202.8 crore.
The company linked the quarter’s demand to persistent heatwaves that pushed peak power demand to an all-time high of 270.8 GW in May 2026. It said energy consumption reached 485.4 billion units during the quarter, up 8.8% year over year.
On pricing and fuel conditions, IEX said the average Day Ahead Market price increased 15.7% year over year to ₹5.1 per unit, while the average Real-Time Market price rose 13.8% to ₹4.5 per unit. It added that coal production was nearly 233 million tonnes in Q1 FY27, with coal inventories at power plants at 17 days as of June 30, and that its gas exchange unit Indian Gas Exchange traded 27.5 million MMBtu, up 11.9% year over year, with IGX PAT rising 15.5% to ₹16.3 crore. Separately, IEX said Indian Gas Exchange filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus with SEBI on July 14, 2026, for a proposed IPO, and that IEX holds a 47.3% stake in IGX.
