Governors Island Trust seeks partners to revitalize two historic buildings
The Trust is asking for proposals for arts, cultural, recreation, or other public-facing uses for former YMCA Building 324 and Fort Jay Theater Building 330.
The Trust for Governors Island has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest, or RFEI, to identify partners to revitalize two historic buildings on Governors Island, Building 324 and Building 330.
The RFEI invites ideas to bring the properties back into active, year-round use, with the Trust seeking responses that focus on arts and cultural, recreational, or other public-facing uses.
The two adjacent buildings sit within the Governors Island Historic District. They were originally constructed as a YMCA recreation center and a movie theater, and both feature high ceilings and open floor plans.
According to the Trust, the former YMCA and Fort Jay Theater have historically served as cultural anchors of the island, and the Trust is looking for proposals to breathe new life into the structures.
