Hong Kong finance chief backs role as China’s “super converter”
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said Hong Kong certification that meets local standards can help mainland products gain recognition in other markets.
Hong Kong could take on a new role as a “super converter” for technical standards, legal norms, and innovations exchanged between mainland China and the rest of the world, Hong Kong’s finance chief said, according to SCMP Economy.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said Hong Kong’s reputation for quality has created a “brand name” effect, adding that mainland products that pass tests in Hong Kong and receive certification to its standards are often recognized by other markets.
Chan also pointed to growing global acceptance of Chinese standards, citing ultra-high-strength steel products as an example of advanced offerings that could help promote national standards to overseas regions.
