Tencent fires WeChat manager over alleged leak of sensitive info
The company dismissed a Weixin Group project manager after a screenshot circulated online showing a compensation package of about 3.17 million yuan, including cash bonuses and stock incentives.
Tencent Holdings has fired a manager at its WeChat unit after details of his multimillion-yuan bonus package leaked online, drawing heavy discussion across Chinese social media, according to an internal bulletin reviewed by employees, as reported by the SCMP Economy.
The employee, surnamed Ye, worked as a project manager in Tencent’s Weixin Group, which the notice describes as the core engine behind WeChat. Tencent said Ye was dismissed for passing sensitive corporate information to external parties, which it described as causing a severe negative impact both inside and outside the company.
The dismissal followed the online circulation of a screenshot, allegedly taken from a Tencent internal platform, that showed Ye’s compensation package. The image indicated an annual pay figure of roughly 3.17 million yuan, including a cash bonus of more than 820,000 yuan and stock incentives worth over 2.35 million yuan, the report said.
