Trump weighs intensifying military campaign against Iran after ceasefire collapse
Markets were mixed around the news, with NASDAQ down 0.5% and crude oil trading around $89.4 a barrel.
President Trump met Friday with top advisers and senior Cabinet officials to discuss whether to intensify the U.S. military campaign against Iran, according to a New York Times report cited by Forexlive.
The meeting follows the collapse of a ceasefire and the breakdown of a memorandum of understanding that was meant to bring Washington and Tehran back to negotiations for a longer-term nuclear agreement.
The report comes after earlier coverage that Trump scheduled a Cabinet meeting at Camp David and that he was considering a military operation larger than previous strikes against Iran, Forexlive added.
Ahead of a planned visit by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House next week, market moves showed risk sentiment pressure, with the NASDAQ down 0.5% and crude oil trading at $89.4 per barrel, above $87.7 after-session lows but still below its 100 day moving average at $89.9.
