Universal Insurance Holdings Q2 profit rises 69% to $59.2 million
The insurer said lower net loss ratio, higher net premiums earned, and increased net investment income helped lift Q2 adjusted net income to $53.4 million, while its combined ratio improved to 91.6%.
Universal Insurance Holdings reported second-quarter 2026 net income available to common stockholders of $59.2 million, up 69% from $35.1 million in the prior-year quarter, according to Reinsurance News.
Adjusted net income available to common stockholders rose to $53.4 million from $35.7 million. The company attributed the improvement to a lower net loss ratio, higher net premiums earned, and higher net investment income, while total revenues increased 6.7% to $427 million.
Universal posted direct premiums written growth of 4.1% to $621.3 million and direct premiums earned up 4.1% to $544.8 million. Its combined ratio improved to 91.6% from 97.8%, with the loss ratio falling to 64.8% from 72.3%, despite the expense ratio edging up to 26.8% from 25.5%.
Net investment income totaled $20.2 million, up from $17.3 million, aided by higher fixed income reinvestment yields and higher invested assets. CEO Stephen J. Donaghy said the net loss ratio improvement was driven by favorable claims and litigation trends tied to Florida legislative reforms, adding that the company expects the benefits to extend to non-catastrophe margins during the year.
