Southbound Travel for Guangdong vehicles expands to 5 more cities
The daily quota for urban trips under the scheme doubles to 200, and authorities received about three times as many applications as available places.
South China Morning Post reports that nearly 170 mainland Chinese motorists are expected to arrive in Hong Kong on Saturday under an expanded cross-border travel scheme aimed at Guangdong vehicles.
The Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles program has been extended to five additional Greater Bay Area cities, including Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, and Zhaoqing, bringing the total eligible mainland cities to nine: the five new additions plus Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, and Zhongshan.
Under the expansion, the daily quota of urban trips for participants doubles to 200. The report says Hong Kong hotels are preparing accommodation, dining, shopping, and parking packages to attract the new visitors.
At the scheme’s launch ceremony at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge port, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said authorities received three times as many applications as the quota, calling the response very encouraging.
