Hong Kong to lower typhoon signal as flight and rail cancellations mount
The Observatory plans to cut the No 8 storm signal to No 3 at 12.40pm, after about 350 flights and more than 190 cross-border high-speed rail services were cancelled on Sunday.
Typhoon Noul has prompted disruptions across Hong Kong, with around 350 flights cancelled on Sunday even as most are expected to resume in the afternoon, according to the Hong Kong Airport Authority and reported by SCMP Economy.
The Hong Kong Observatory said it will lower the No 8 storm signal to No 3 at 12.40pm as the storm moves further away from the city.
SCMP Economy also reported that, in addition to flights, more than 190 cross-border high-speed rail services were cancelled on Sunday.
A forecaster said Noul is moving inland into Guangdong and weakening progressively, though gale-force winds are still affecting parts of the area offshore and on high ground occasionally. The airport authority expects to handle a total of 675 flights on Sunday, with 350 cancelled.
