Malaysia police open probe into Sanusi over race-linked campaign remarks
The complaint was filed Friday at Bandar Seri Jempol police station, and investigators are also reviewing potential violations under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Malaysian police have received a report against Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over remarks allegedly made during a speech while campaigning for the Negeri Sembilan election, according to SCMP Economy.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the complaint was lodged by a 40-year-old man at the Bandar Seri Jempol police station on Friday, and police are investigating the matter.
SCMP Economy reported that the probe is also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities or services.
The remarks in question involved a rally comment, as reported by Malaysiakini, that “Chinese have China, Indians have India, Malays only have Tanah Melayu.”
