Cinven and La Caisse agree to buy majority stake in Optio

Optio, an MGA, writes over £460 million in annual premiums across 18 offices in 15 countries, and the deal is set to expand its specialist underwriting capabilities and international footprint.

Optio, an independent international specialty managing general agent, said Cinven and global investment group La Caisse, formerly CDPQ, have agreed to jointly acquire a majority stake from Preservation Capital Partners. The investment is intended to support Optio’s next chapter through expansion of its specialist underwriting capabilities, broadening its product offering, and growing its international presence. Optio also said its current management team will remain significantly invested and will continue to lead the business after the transaction is completed.

Optio said PCP first invested in the company in 2018, since when Optio has built a diversified platform writing over £460 million in annual premiums across 18 offices in 15 countries. The MGA said it operates across Europe, the US, the Middle East and Asia, writing over 30 products with anchor capacity from Hiscox and several additional A-rated capacity providers.

Optio’s CEO, Deepak Soni, said the firm is welcoming Cinven and La Caisse as partners as it moves to its next growth phase, building on what Optio characterized as strong underwriting results for insurer partners and service to brokers. Reinsurance News also noted the Cinven and La Caisse teams bring specialty underwriting experience and plan to continue scaling the business organically and through further M&A.
