Hong Kong exports jump 53.4% in June to record HK$641.1 billion
June exports rose after a 40.8% surge in May, while imports climbed 45.4% and left a HK$51.9 billion trade deficit.
Hong Kong exports increased 53.4% year on year in June to a record HK$641.1 billion (US$81.7 billion), the biggest monthly rise in 42 years, according to provisional figures released by the Census and Statistics Department.
The government attributed the surge to sustained overseas demand for electronic products linked to artificial intelligence, noting that major markets continued to show strong growth for AI-related goods.
Imports rose 45.4% to HK$693 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of HK$51.9 billion, equivalent to 7.5% of June imports.
A government spokesman said global demand for AI-related electronics should continue to support Hong Kong’s merchandise trade performance, while also pointing to a re escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as a risk to watch.
