Microsoft expands Mistral partnership to bolster Azure AI governance
The expanded deal includes using Mistral’s European GPU infrastructure and adding Mistral models to Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio.
Microsoft is expanding its strategic partnership with Mistral as it looks to strengthen Azure as an enterprise AI platform for frontier model adoption, with a focus on security, governance, and compliance, according to Yahoo Finance. The agreement is aimed at giving enterprises and regulated industries access to frontier AI models they can deploy with greater control. Microsoft also frames the effort as part of a broader push to make Azure a multi-model AI marketplace and infrastructure layer that runs models within the same cloud security framework and governance tools. As part of the partnership expansion, Microsoft will use Mistral’s expanding European GPU infrastructure. Mistral has also added its Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 models to Microsoft’s Foundry app builder, and Microsoft Copilot Studio has brought on Medium 3.5 as well. Yahoo Finance adds that Microsoft is embedding governance capabilities across Microsoft Foundry, Microsoft 365, and Azure, including features such as audit trails, identity management, policy enforcement, and strict access controls. The company ties the strategy to demand for sovereign AI infrastructure that can keep sensitive data within national or regional borders to meet data sovereignty and privacy requirements.
