Russia says refinery restarts are easing its fuel crisis
The country has been dealing with gasoline and diesel shortages for more than two months as Ukraine targeted Russian refineries and fuel supply routes.
OilPrice reports that Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said the fuel crisis is gradually stabilizing, as some oil refineries have restarted operations in recent days.
According to Novak, the balance is improving and conditions at fuel filling stations have “considerably improved,” though he said the situation remains quite tense in some regions, particularly in Siberia.
The outlet notes the shortages have persisted for more than two months during peak demand, linked to Ukraine’s drone campaign that forced many large processing sites offline in spring and early summer.
OilPrice adds that Russia banned diesel exports earlier this month to protect domestic supply, while Ukraine’s attacks have continued, including targeting Russia-linked vessels in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
