Viking Global flags conservative AI stance despite 2.6% H1 gain

The hedge fund said it has stayed away from stocks it views as overvalued, even as it acknowledges a cautious approach to AI performance in the first half.

Viking Global Investors acknowledged that its cautious stance toward artificial intelligence exposure during the first half of the year was, in its view, a missed opportunity, even as the hedge fund delivered a 2.6% gain over the period, according to a report covered by Hedgeweek.

The firm also said it continues to resist chasing companies that it considers to be trading at excessive valuations, framing its positioning as disciplined rather than reactive.

The comments reflect how Viking Global is balancing selective exposure, including in AI, against its broader preference to avoid what it sees as stretched stock prices during a period of gains.
