AmericanFortress unveils quantum-safe wallet protection for BTC, ETH, SOL
The company says its zero-knowledge proof approach could keep existing wallet addresses in place instead of requiring key rotation or fund migration.
AmericanFortress has unveiled a cryptographic scheme it says can add quantum-resilient protection to existing cryptocurrency wallets without forcing users to move funds or change wallet addresses. The proposal targets wallets used across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, while aiming to protect them against potential future quantum attacks. The company describes the method as compatible with seed-based hierarchical deterministic wallets that rely on elliptic curve cryptography. Instead of replacing the underlying elliptic curve system, AmericanFortress says the scheme uses zero-knowledge proofs derived from a wallet’s original seed phrase, so participating nodes can verify those proofs while users continue signing transactions with their existing keys. AmericanFortress published the proposal as a technical paper on the Cryptography ePrint Archive, noting that the paper has not yet been peer-reviewed. The company also cited a Bloomberg analysis estimating that up to $470 billion in Bitcoin could be vulnerable to quantum attacks if sufficiently powerful quantum computers become available. The announcement comes alongside other efforts in the space, including Freedom Factory’s newly unveiled PQ1 post-quantum hardware wallet for Ethereum and other EVM-compatible networks. Cointelegraph reports PQ1 is designed using post-quantum cryptographic signatures generated on dedicated hardware, including SPHINCS+C10 signatures and ERC-4337 smart accounts, according to Freedom Factory.
