Hong Kong parents seek medical checks after lead scare in formula
Affected Friso Prestige Stage 1 batch 1W07KPJ was flagged by Macau authorities, prompting hospital observation for a five-month-old.
Hong Kong parents have been rushing their infants to medical check-ups after a batch of powdered formula was found to contain excessive lead levels, according to the South China Morning Post. One mother told SCMP that her five-month-old baby remained in hospital for observation after consuming the same batch of Frisolac Prestige Stage 1, an 800 gram product intended for babies aged up to six months. The affected batch was numbered 1W07KPJ and was flagged by Macau authorities. After Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety requested a recall on Saturday, parents who had also bought other Royal FrieslandCampina formula products said they wanted guidance on alternatives. Royal FrieslandCampina, the manufacturer of the Friso milk formula brand, said additional third-party testing confirmed the affected batch met Hong Kong and Macau standards. Some parents also expressed concern on social media about whether switching products would prevent future exposure.
