Cowbell rolls out AI underwriting system to speed specialty quotes

The company says its OMNI system can deliver eligible non-admitted quotes in minutes rather than the days or weeks typical of conventional workflows.

Cowbell, an AI-native cyber and specialty insurer for small and medium-sized enterprises, has launched OMNI, an AI-native Decision Intelligence System intended to support underwriting, claims, and product development across its specialty insurance business, according to Insurance Business. OMNI is built on the Cowbell Platform and combines decision intelligence, workflow automation, and governance. Cowbell says it draws on a global risk pool of more than 55 million entities and is designed to help underwriters, claims advisors, and cybersecurity staff reach faster, more consistent decisions throughout the insurance lifecycle. The first OMNI application targets underwriting high-volume, lower-premium excess and surplus business for smaller organizations, where per-account premiums have historically been too thin to justify traditional, labor-intensive underwriting. Specialized AI agents work alongside human underwriters to analyze submissions, evaluate risk, and gather underwriting intelligence, generating coverage and pricing recommendations that underwriters retain authority to approve. Cowbell said eligible non-admitted quotes can now be delivered in minutes rather than the days or weeks typical of conventional specialty insurance workflows, and it reported that new business has grown 53% since the platform's deployment, though those figures are self-reported and not independently verified. The company also said OMNI compressed product development timelines from roughly eight months to as little as six weeks, citing its Prime One cyber product launch for the US middle market, and it pointed to Bellwether, an internal AI performance measurement tool, to track adoption and outcomes for auditability.
