Brand Urban expands retail real estate services with Alvarez & Marsal team

The new hires include Matthew Krell as principal, with Daniel Bodner and Lucas Kooyman joining as executive vice president and vice president, respectively.

Brand Urban, a retail advisory firm founded by Taryn Brandes, is expanding its headcount by bringing in a team from Alvarez & Marsal Property Solutions, Commercial Observer reports. The firm said it hired Matthew Krell, Daniel Bodner, Lucas Kooyman, and three additional Alvarez & Marsal team members, including Max Swerdloff, Rikard Cederberg, and Isabel Krajovan.

According to the two firms, Krell will join Brand Urban as principal, while Bodner and Kooyman will take the roles of executive vice president and vice president. Brandes framed the growth as deliberate, saying the firm focused on leadership, the specific individuals it brought aboard, and the clients it partners with.

The Alvarez & Marsal hires are expected to bring clients such as Asana Partners, Nuveen Real Estate, and Kushner Companies, and retailers including Patagonia, Lush, Ghirardelli, and Barcelona Wine Bar, the outlet said. Brand Urban also said its expansion is designed to broaden its service range and scale.

Brand Urban has built its business from a New York City brokerage into a larger national framework through partnerships supporting retailers expanding across the country. Commercial Observer adds that the firm is taking particular interest in Manhattan neighborhoods including NoMad and Flatiron, where it is advising Nuveen at 10 Madison Square West.
