Canopy MLS names Steve Byrd as next CEO effective Aug. 1
The MLS is also separating CEO roles from the Canopy Realtor Association, with Byrd reporting to current leader Anne Marie DeCatsye through 2026.
HousingWire reports that Steve Byrd will move from chief technology officer to chief executive officer at Canopy MLS on Aug. 1. His appointment is part of a wider restructuring of the organization’s leadership and governance.
The outlet says Byrd will succeed Anne Marie DeCatsye, who will retire at the end of 2026 after more than 25 years leading both Canopy MLS and the Canopy Realtor Association. Canopy MLS is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has more than 22,000 subscribers.
HousingWire adds that as CEO, Byrd will oversee operations, financial management, innovation, and long-term growth, including efforts to broaden Canopy’s products and services. The organization says he will also work with executives in the Southeast MLS Alliance, which includes Canopy MLS, Charleston Trident Regional MLS, Georgia MLS, Realtracs in Nashville, and realMLS in Northeast Florida.
According to HousingWire, Canopy’s boards decided to install separate chief executives for Canopy MLS and the Canopy Realtor Association, moving away from a shared CEO model. For the remainder of 2026, Byrd will report to DeCatsye, and under a new operations and management agreement taking effect in January 2027, he will hold full executive authority over Canopy MLS while working closely with the association’s executive leadership.
