CFC adds affirmative AI wording to media and cyber insurance
The insurer says AI involvement will not block coverage, including for defamation and IP claims where AI contributes to content creation, effective July 30.
Specialist insurer CFC has introduced affirmative AI coverage within its media policy, effective July 30, as part of a broader rollout that embeds explicit AI wording across its insurance products. CFC said the revised media wording is intended to give brokers and policyholders more certainty about how the policy responds to AI related liability exposures. Under the update, involvement of AI in media activities does not prevent the policy from responding, and it can still cover claims including defamation and intellectual property infringement where AI has contributed to content creation. CFC also updated its cyber coverages with affirmative AI language. The insurer said the change provides insureds the same level of protection associated with its Cyber Proactive Response (CPR) product, while clarifying how established cyber triggers apply when AI produces issues such as hallucinations or large language model prompts that lead to unexpected computer systems downtime. The update builds on CFC's existing media policy structure, which combines multimedia and professional liability cover with cyber and privacy protection and other related coverages. CFC said the media change completes a program it began in June 2026, when it rolled out affirmative AI wording across six other core products, including technology errors and omissions, professional liability, eHealth, intellectual property, management liability and its CPR cyber product, with Nick Line, chief underwriting officer, describing AI as already embedded in how many businesses create, manage and distribute content.
