Cynthia Lummis says Crypto Clarity Act could have passed months ago

She said the bill expanded from about 300 pages last Labor Day to nearly 700 pages, with many additions coming at Democrats' requests.

Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis renewed her criticism of Democrats for delaying the long-awaited crypto Clarity Act, arguing the legislation could have advanced months ago. Speaking on the Crypto in America podcast on Thursday, Lummis said Democrats are not committing to a vote despite having worked on the bill for 11 months, according to Bitcoin Magazine.

Lummis also said lawmakers are aiming to pass the measure before Congress departs for the August recess, noting that Senate leaders have left a spot on the agenda for the act. She added that bipartisan drafting has continued, but some Democrats remain unhappy with the current version.

The Bitcoin Magazine article says the Clarity Act passed the House last year with strong bipartisan support, yet has been deadlocked for much of 2026. It attributes part of the stalemate to concerns raised by the banking lobby, including around stablecoin yield.

According to the update described by Bitcoin Magazine, an updated version of the Clarity Act was introduced last week that addressed ethics concerns by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. Republicans are hoping to secure bipartisan support for the bill this week to move the legislation forward.
