FTC sues Hims & Hers over sharing user health data with advertisers
The FTC also alleged Hims & Hers charged users for prescriptions before they met with healthcare providers, a claim the company denied as baseless.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has sued Hims & Hers, alleging the telehealth company shared sensitive user health information with online advertisers even though it told customers their data would be private.
The complaint, filed July 29 along with Los Angeles County and Utah, named ad companies including Meta Platforms and Snap, and says Hims & Hers led customers to believe their health data was not being used for advertising.
According to the FTC, the company also engaged in deceptive billing and cancellation practices, including charging users for prescriptions before they had a chance to meet with healthcare providers. The agency said most customers are not given a consultation and are charged soon after filling out an intake form.
After the news broke, Hims & Hers shares fell by about 12%, the story said. Hims & Hers disputed the allegations in a post on X, calling them baseless.
