MS Amlin names Laura Hobern chief actuary in leadership reshuffle
The appointments also create a new Underwriting Portfolio Director role for Paul Lucas, as MS Amlin seeks to balance growth with capital discipline.
MS Amlin, the Lloyd’s global (re)insurer, announced a leadership reshuffle that includes appointing Laura Hobern as Chief Actuary, succeeding Paul Lucas.
Hobern is set to join in Q4 2026, subject to regulatory approval, and will report to Chief Financial Officer Jessie Burrows. She will oversee MS Amlin’s actuarial operations, including reserving and pricing, with responsibility for ensuring actuarial input supports strategic decision making, financial resilience, and sustainable growth.
MS Amlin also named Lucas, currently Chief Actuary, to a newly created role, Underwriting Portfolio Director. In that position, he will report to Martin Burke, Chief Underwriting Officer, and use his insight across the business to help shape the company’s underwriting appetite, portfolio strategy, and capital allocation decisions.
Burrows said the appointments combine actuarial expertise with commercial judgment and leadership experience, and that Hobern and Lucas are expected to help MS Amlin balance growth with discipline amid evolving market conditions, supporting financial resilience and sustainable profitability.
